Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My almost 14 year old daughter s doctor mentioned Marfan Syndrome to us yesterday and want to ask a few questions She is 5 8 and with very long legs and arms. She grew more than 6 last year, has always had growing pains since a very young age too. She has great posture, high arches in her feet, great vision, and is very active as a classical dancer. We have never heard of this syndrome before. Her daddy is 6 8.5 and slim tall girls run in both our families. Should we be concerned? Should we have her tested or check by specialists?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting connective tissue. The characters of the disease being an affection of spine (scoliosis), eye problems, heart problems like valvular abnormalities or aortic resection
Diagnosis depends on confirming typical symptoms by specific investigations. Treatment is mainly focused on normal growth of possibly affected organs, especially in growing age. So she does need expert physicians to help to get diagnosed & treated optimally to prevent developmental defects, especially in her present growing age.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
