Hello,
You have a history of having CSOM, chronic suppurative
otitis media, you should stay away from swimming pools, do not swim, be careful while taking bath, do not let water enter your ears, it may trigger pain, infection, swelling of the ear and difficulty in hearing. CSOM, is a common cause of acquired
hearing impairment, Meniere's disease, vertigo, etc.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, when CSOM is confirmed you will be given conservative treatment (antibiotics and analgesics) or surgery recommended if required. As, such there is no cure for Meniere's disease but when CSOM is treated, the symptoms will reduce and you will be comfortable. Menierie's diseases responds well to treatment with steroids and
gentamicin.
Physical therapy is effective. Get
audiometry test done.
When you have vertigo (dizziness, light headedness) do not drive or do heavy work. Stay at rest. A course of Vertin-32 will effectively bring relieve but consult your treating doctor, do not take medicines on your own.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
