Suggest Treatment For OCD, Depression And Anxiety

Hello: My son age 36 has been taking Effexor/Venafexaline for at least 10 years now. He is classified as having a disability, he has anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, and depression. He has actually been ill since the age of 15. We believe due to concussions playing hockey, this is when it all began for him, he had a personality change around 15 years. My question is, is it in his best interest to continue with this drug after so many years. He has been on numerous drugs but this one the longest. He is showing signs of increased anxiety and panic. Thank You-. Linda

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As the medication is ongoing since a long period of time, there is a body tends to show up down-regulation of receptors over which the drug is acting, lessening its efficacy and effects.

You need detailed counselling with your psychiatrist for newer drug and best available regimen for your son as newer selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors to have excellent results over the previous molecules.

Try to involve him more in meditations and YOGA at home for best ever experience both of your life.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
