Suggest Treatment For PCOD When Trying To Conceive
Hello Dr., I m 30 years old and have height of 152 cm and weight of 69 kg. I have PCOD and was trying to conceive. Hence, my doctor prescribed me Bigomet SR * 500 . I started using it two times daily around 10 days back. But now, because our job constraints me and my husband can not stay together for quite a sometime (May be a year or more). So, should I continue with the medication for reducing PCOD and weight, or should I stop the medication and restart when we again stay togather? Is it good/safe to take this tablet long? Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. For PCOD and excess weight if you loss around 10 percent of it you can gain a normal menstrual cycle with normal ovulation. Metformin (biomet SR) is helpful in weight loss and decreasing insulin resistance. This should be taken for long term like 6 months to 1 year. You will have more benefits comparing to the minimal side effects like gastro intestinal upset. So you can continue the drug even though your husband is not with you now. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
