My daughter is 16 years old and has recently been diagnosed with PCOS. She has been put on Aldactone and Metformin. However, she still feels extremely fatigued almost all of the time, and has on average 6-8 hot flashes a day, that she complains about; however, some days it seems that it's like she's having one continuous hot flash. She has also been put on Yaz due to extremely heavy bleeding during her periods...this has helped to modifiy her periods quite well. I have wondered if on top of the PCOS if perhaps she has a thyroid disorder of some type. They have done numerous tests, i.e., Hashimoto's, etc., and all return negative results; however, even though all of her numbers are in the "normal" range, she does go off "center" more towards low thyroid. I'm just wondering if she might be someone who, unlike the "majority" doesn't fall into the "normal" range, and if this would account for her numerous hot flashes. Also, there are times when her breath literally smells like "manure", and that is no exaggeration. Is it possible for a thyroid disorder to affect someone's breath? She has been to the dentist for a complete check-up and goes every six months without fail. Her teeth and gums are fine, and she brushes and flosses several times a day because she is so self-conscious about her breath. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
