Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been having UTI symtoms for 6 weeks. I ve had 2 urine and blood samples in the last month and they all come back negative. I ve been given cephelexin and doxycycline to test it and it has not gone away. It burns to pee and my lower abdomen is always sensitive. I am a 61 year old man and am very frustrated. I am being treated for a herniated disc. My urologist thought it might be nerve damage and prescribed Nortriptyine which I took for 3 weeks and made me tired and weak but no change in the symptoms. What could this be,and is it safe to have intercourse with my girlfriend. She thinks it might be risky. I belong to Kaiser health in the LA area and feel there not doing a good job to diagnose what my problem is. Please help.
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. These symptoms are suggestive of uroinfection and this is common in your age and usually is manifested with pain during urination, fever and changes in urination frequency. Also, blood traces may be present in urine which can have odour or colour change. Other common cause are urinary stones. Diagnosis is established by doing urine analysis and urinoculture and after this antibiotic treatment may be started if necessary. If there is negative urine analysis then you should do ultrasound of kidneys to check for stones. You should drink plenty of fluids and take raspberry tea or juice to promote urination. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
