Hello,

Since you have developed a bony lump at the base of the neck, it can be cervical osteophyte. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests and X-ray, CT, MRI done to detect the pathology causing the symptom. It will be treated with physical therapy, warm/cold compression, medicines (analgesics, NSAIDS, etc) or surgery depending on the severity of the symptoms.

You are suggested to change the mattress in which you sleep and also the pillow. Make sure that the mattress and pillow are comfortable. Other medical conditions causing similar symptoms are swollen lymph nodes, skin cysts, benign tumors, OA, etc. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
