Suggest Treatment For A Colon Condition

Hi There, Need some help & advice, My 86 year old mother who had a Operation to have a Stoma bag a few months ago-Due to an Original Infection, Of which the Hospital had said should only be Temporary. She says she`s been havinga discharge/leakage from her stoma bag/bowel. Which she says is yellowy green/Or Visa Versa-The Doctor has put her on Iron Tablets due to Anaemia at sometime since She`s been out of Hospital(A few months ago), and he insists she needs to stay on the Iron Tablets He`s prescribed her & the Stoma Nurse says it`s due to Constipation-but Nobody seems to be doing anything to get the Problem sorted/Rectified. Who Can I go to for Proper Professional advice & get my Mother the Correct Help on behalf of my Mother. What advice can you give me, My Mum says it`s an Inconvenience more than anything-but does`nt apppear to be getting anywhere as regards getting any thing done for her-to solve this inconvenient problem & is the described Discharge decribed Normal or Abnormal?(My Mother lives in a different area to me). I would contact her Doctor myself & request/insist that He gets the Problem sorted out, but do not want to make things & Life uncomfortable for my Mother from her Doctor.

Hi

After hearing your history as your mother is having yellow/green discharge from stomach bag it could be a sign of infection.
I would advise you to do a culture sensitivity test of the discharge and if any infection is found then it has to be treated by sensitive antibiotics.

Since she also has taken Iron tablets that may also cause this type of green discharge. So to confirm whether it is an infection or not you need to do the culture sensitivity test.

Hi

After hearing your history i would advise your mother to go for routine stool, culture sensitivity and occult blood test.

If the stool report comes negative for any blood then the discharge from her stoma bag may be due to the iron tablets she is having.

If the test comes out with infection and blood present in stool then she has to be treated by sensitive antibiotic and for blood in stool i would advise her to take tab Tranexamic acid 500 mg twice daily after food for 3 days.

I would also advise her to do a CT scan of whole abdomen along with blood test for tumour marker CEA.

Regards
