Hello, welcome to HCM. As cathartic colon is caused by prolonged regular use of laxatives, the first step in treatment includes discontinuation of use of laxatives. Treatment from there on depends on extent of damage to your colon which may even need surgery. You can reduce the symptoms of pain and fecal evacuation by having small frequent meals, limiting dairy foods, taking plenty of fluids, having balanced diet rich in carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and regular exercise. You must consult a surgeon for complete evaluation. Wish you good health.

Welcome to Health Care Magic,
A colon affected by long-time use of cathartics and laxatives.First of all avoid the use of laxatives or all the treatment will go in vain.Avoid eating items like beans, dairy products, carbonated beverages, raw fruits and vegetables.
Medications used to treat pain include anti inflammatory drugs and corticosteroids.Sometimes surgery may be required to repair the colon.
Take regular exercise, plenty of fluids, foods like prunes and melons that will help normalize the bowel movements.Fluid replacement therapy is very much necessary.

If you mean the person is suffering from loose stools, it could be diarrhoea. This would have been caused by many possible causes like infection, antibiotics etc. You need to keep the patient well hydrated with WHO ORS, use it as described on the sachet. Also provide fluids like lemon juice to improve hydration. You need to get him to see his Doctor, get a stool test if needed and get appropriate treatment for this problem. Sometimes medication to stop loose stools may be prescribed like Loperamide but only after antibiotics for the infection has been administered. Discuss this with his Doctor as soon as possible. Do not delay.
