Suggest Treatment For A Fingernail That Has Been Partially Torn Off
Hi, I recently pulled my finger nail all the way back but it is still attached at the bed. It s about a week now I had it wrapped to keep clean, it doesn t hurt any more and looks fine as not infected, but the nail feels like it s not attached anymore, I don t want to pull on it in case it is adhereing. Do u think it will reattach to skin or will it have to come off
I suggest you don't try to pull the fingernail off. If the nail is dead, the growth of a new nail will push it out and cause it to fall off spontaneously. Continue wrapping it to prevent it from catching on things. If that's not a concern, keeping it exposed to air is also alright. Make sure you keep the area clean.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
