Hi,
As a general practitioner, I will be concerned with two aspects of
fracture, i.e.
i.
first aid treatment [already provided] and
ii. Aftercare of plastered patient [which needs to be given since his attending physician has dropped him]: thus
- Watch for distal edema on fingers/toes. Keep the limb elevated, and if the edema does not subside with elevation: one has to refer the patient with tight plaster- for slitting.
- If there is increasing pain, or if fingers show a change of color to white or blue, consider it an absolute emergency. Take the patient immediately and personally to an orthopedic surgeon for immediate removal of plaster, otherwise, the delay may cause
gangrene.
- Encourage the patient to keep his muscles active: i.e. joints that are outside the plaster should be moved through the full range, repeatedly and the patient should concentrate and contract the muscles that are inside plaster to minimize their wasting and preserve their power.
iii. If your doctor has dropped your father, thus you need to get a
second opinion or can go for a
Telemedicine approach, who can send you a prescription and then you can take the same to a local pharmacy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
