Suggest Treatment For A Hard Bump On Neck In A Child

My six year old daughter was sitting on the floor not moving and jumped up suddenly and started screaming and crying because she had a pain on the left side of her neck. There is now a large, hard bump on the side of her neck. About the size of a quarter. It is sore to the touch. There is no redness.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the hard bump on neck in a child following history of jumping indicates possible hematoma formation most likely. Guidelines for better recovery:
- Ice application three times a day
- Analgesic as Ibuprofen with paracetamol suspension or syrup
- Prescription of antibiotic as Penicillin, Amoxycillin with Clavulanic Acid or Cephalosporin for best and early resolution of hematoma and prevent secondary bacterial infection

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
