What happens when you have a hematoma in surrounding tissue or muscle that does not coagulate. Pain and protrusion near rib. Hurts when I breathe sneeze or cough. I had a chest X-ray and also to ribs showing no sign of fractured or bruised rib. How long can this hematoma last. It s worse now than one week ago

General & Family Physician 's  Response
When the bleeding is restricted to one area, it causes bruising and swelling, and it is referred to as hematoma. In area with rich blood supply, even minor injury can cause large hematoma. Hematomas usually spontaneously resolve over time even without treatment.
Advice
1.     Apply ice pack locally. Do not apply pressure as it will hinder natural process of healing
2.     Take rest for few days
3.     You can take oral over the counter pain killer pain killer such as ibuprofen 400 mg as needed basis if pain is unbearable.
4.     If your condition is worsening then go to hospital for further treatment by surgery
5.     Investigation – coagulation profile
