Suggest Treatment For A Large Bruise On The Inner Thigh
I received a large bruise on my inner thigh (I was bucked off a horse and hit the saddle horn) the bruise was about 8 in diameter. The bruise is almost gone but I have a large knot which is still quite painful. The knot is about 1-1/2 diameter. Should I do anything to it? Go to the Dr? Massage it? Ice it?
Bruise heals faster as there are leaks from smaller blood vessels. But clots or hematomas may take 4 weeks or sometimes more to heal as hey may occur deep inside the body.
Hot & cold compression may help. You are suggested to apply ointment thrombophob on the affected part twice or thrice daily but do not massage.
Avoid activity in the inner thigh, take rest. Maintain a low BMI. Take NSAIDS if required for relief from discomfort.
If it is taking longer to heal or discomfort is increasing then you are suggested to get it clinically assessed by a GP & get treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
