Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A small mole developed on my left forearm about 3 or so months ago. It s about 1cm and dome-shaped. It has been growing progressively, but last week i accidentally scratched it (it bled a little bit) after that it has turned white and become scaley and the head of mole has split/cracked all over, into a rough patch with lots of small circles, almost like a tootbrush. It looks very gross. Does this mean the mole is dying? Is this normal or should I take it more seriously?
The concern would be, Is this mole (nevus) malignant? A high index of suspicion of malignant melanoma should be kept for any rapidly growing pigmented skin lesion.
It is safer if you will have it seen by a dermatologist. Should this specialist remove it, he/she will send it to the pathologist who will make the diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd,
Pediatrician
