General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Lump in the neck in a child that has been in treatment for strep is possibly a lymph node, that is normal to react and be painful in such infections.

These lymph nodes react immediately with pain and increase in size when a throat, ear or tooth infection is present, but they take a long time to diminish in size after the infection is cured.

If the lump is inside the throat, it might be a peritonsillar abscess, that is a complication of frequent tonsillitis.

Since the lymph node is painful again, the child needs to go to the doctor to check if there is another infection in her throat, and perform a pharyngeal secretions culture analysis and treat the infection with a sensitive antibiotic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
