Suggest Treatment For A Pea-sized Lump In The Neck In A Child

My six year old daughter had a hard pea-sized lump in her neck about three weeks ago. Now she has another pea-sized lump. Those are painful to touch. There is another larger lump that is not painful. I am worried. I am planning on getting her in to be seen tomorrow. What would cause them?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the lumps may be enlarged cervical lymph nodes.

Children commonly have enlarged neck lymph nodes because they have frequent upper respiratory tract infections (cough and colds).

The source of infection would need to be determined if these are thought to be the cause.
Your doctor may decide to monitor them and may suggest a complete blood count to look for changes to the white cell count.

I hope this helps
