Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello, I was trying to pop a large pimple on my chin. I used the sides of my fingers and I pressed really hard (basically pinched the skin together) and in between where my fingers were left a large red splotchy triangle. I am wondering how I might be able to treat this and approximately when it would fade or go away. It s my first day of school on Tuesday (it s currently Saturday night) and I d really like it to be gone or nearly gone by then. thank you.
Pimple on a chin means it is most probably a boil or acne. Most of these go away if not secondarily infected and if you do not fondle or press on. Since you have tried to pop it up, the inflammatory edema and infection might have spread to nearby places and thus the red mark. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation. You may need a prescription based antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen if it suits you. Apply sterile dressing with povidone iodine. Do not fondle or press on it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
