hi,
thank you for providing the brief history of your father,
A thorough assessment of the laboratory findings and clinical symptoms has to be correlated.
As
prostate cancer is harmless and chances of spreading are less common heard as well. Since, the prostrate cancer is diagnosed the guidance of the
oncologist is of utmost important here. As depending upon the type of cancer stage and the number of cells affected the oncologist will either plan the medical conservative management or the surgical management.
Also, removal of prostate will not do any harm to your fathers health as he is 66 years old. And as of today, this is the commonest treatment of choice seen in my daily practice.
If the oncologist feels, the cancer cells can be controlled, he will perform his best duty, but if the medicine is rejected by the body and cancer cells multiply then an excision of the prostate is performed which is harmless and also common procedure.
I feel you physician is performing well by trying the conservative management, as a good sign of a physician is to go by ethics and he is doing that only .
