Suggest Treatment For A Solid Renal Mass

Hi, I am a 55 y/o female -- I thought I was in good heath until I went to the doctor about 2 years ago (lol) to evaluate vague abdominal pain, bloating and indigestion. In all the tests, they found a precancerous colon polyp, GERD, Barretts esophagus, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and a bad gallbladder (working on getting the surgery scheduled). Now they ve found a possible 1 cm mass on my kidney on an u/s. I m waiting on results from a CT scan of the kidney today. So my question -- what is the next step if there really is a mass --especially since it s so small? I recently moved to a small town and I m not familiar with the reputation of the medical community here. Should this be a watch and wait type of thing, or should I find a qualified urologist in a larger medical center? I did have a half sister who died of kidney cancer when she was the age I am now. I just need some guidance on the next step to take and who to see.

Hello,

I would suggest you wait for your CT report
- The CT report would help define and describe the nature of the mass. This will give us a better idea of whether its a benign lesion (in which case you can wait and watch) or something more sinister.
- In case of the latter, you could let your current physician list out options. After this, you could have a video consultation with a more reputed urologist in a nearby larger town to see what he/she has to say.
- This, in my opinion, would be the best way forward.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
