Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Bloating And Heartburns

I am 27 and my husband and I are trying for a baby. I miscarried 4 months ago in July. My last period was October 17, 1 day late and only 3 days long. Normal periods for me are not late and I bleed for 5 days. Today I am 9 days late with 3 negative pregnancy tests. My symptoms include bloating, mild/barely noticeable cramps, very gassy, loose stools a few times a day, extreme heartburn with regurgitation after and between every meal, increased hunger, enlarged and fuller breasts that are sore on the outter sides near my armpits, some difficultly sleeping which makes me more tired than normal. We suspected I was pregnant but with the negative tests at 1 day late, 5 days late and 8 days late, we are beginning to worry. I m 9 days late today with none of my typical menstrual symptoms, any ideas what could be going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Delayed periods with negative pregnancy tests are common in women and many factors can contribute to this, stress being one of them. Generally it is not recommended to do any other examinations other then the pregnancy tests (which you have already done) till the periods are delayed for a total of 3 months. The reason is because most women will have a menstruation within the next 2-3 months.

I understand this might be distressing to you, especially if you are trying to conceive but doing tests at this point will not help.

To conclude:
- please try to relax, stress is a common cause of irregular menstuation
- if periods do not come in the next month you can see your doctor
- it is very likely soon you will have your periods
- if you are not conceiving within one year of regular unprotected intercourse you will need to see a doctor to investigate for a possible cause and intervention.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
