Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Bloating And Muscle Pain

I ve been taking alendronate for 7 months to treat osteoporosis. I m experiencing stomach bloating, bone and muscle pain. I m also noticing atypical nodules in the palm of my left hand. Should I consult a doctor about changing alendronate for another drug and if so, what is your recommendation?

Hi,

Bisphosphonates you are taking for osteoporosis can cause esophageal inflammation or stomach lining inflammatory response called gastritis. You may need to consider stopping if DEXA scan is repeated and T score is not high risk for any ongoing osteoporosis. Meanwhile antacids like omerperazole before meals and sucralfate suspension may be used. For the nodules, get them examined as it may need biopsy to confirm the cause and origin.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
