Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Bloating Caused After Flu

over the past weekend I came down with a flu virus. It was vomiting, diarrhea , stomach pains the typical. Low fever and aches too. This lasted about 2 days with general icky a few days longer. For the past two days or so it feels as though my abdominal area is extremely bloated and tight and very uncomfortable. Even though my appetite is low. do you think a laxative would help to relieve things?

Hi,

Abdominal bloating can be a common symptom after a viral illness such as the flu. This is often because the gastrointestinal system has been affected and the normal function of the digestive tract is disrupted. It is important to note that laxatives may not be the best solution for relieving abdominal bloating, especially if the cause of the bloating is related to the flu virus.

Instead, the following measures may be helpful:
* Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and other fluids to help the digestive system recover and maintain hydration.
* Avoid gas-producing foods: Certain foods such as beans, cabbage, broccoli, and carbonated drinks can cause gas and increase bloating. Avoiding these foods can help alleviate symptoms.
* Gentle exercise: Light exercise such as walking or stretching can help to stimulate the digestive system and relieve bloating.
* Probiotics: Probiotics can help to restore the balance of healthy bacteria in the gut and improve digestion. Foods like yogurt, kefir, and fermented vegetables are rich in probiotics.
* Over-the-counter remedies: Several over-the-counter remedies may be helpful for bloating, such as antacids or simethicone. However, it is important to consult a healthcare provider before taking any medication, especially if you are pregnant or have underlying health conditions.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
