experiencing abdominal swelling and pain this evening. about ten days after a fall where I tripped and fell into the asphalt roadway and impacted my ribs on right side. I have chronic intercostal neuralgia on that side but pain became acute after fall. Have been recovering mobility, went back to work, but am concerned about swelling. should I seek the advice of my physician at this point?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a history of having chronic intercostal neuralgia on the right side and you tripped and fell. You hurt the ribs on the right side again. Since now you are experiencing acute pain after the fall & also have abdominal pain and swelling, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Your treating doctor will recommend a few blood tests, routines tests, urinalysis and imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI) tests done to detect injury, fracture, trauma, internal injury, tendon or ligament tear, etc.

You will be treated accordingly. Take rest, do not strain unnecessarily. Avoid addictions if any. For relief you can take NSAIDS, Naproxen or Combiflam, one SOS when required. Take antacids and PPIs to avoid bloating. Take food that is easily digestible in small amounts.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
