I got menstruated after taking 2 pills and was relieved. To date, my last period was experienced last march this year, I consulted other OBGYNE and prescribed to take duphaston for 5 days (august 29-sept. 2), so i did. But after taking taking duphaston no menstruation experienced. I am worried at the same time irritated. Can I take provera pill now? Thank you and God Bless
Hi, Welcome to Ask A Doctor, Thanks for the query.
Poly cystic ovary disease presents with symptoms like irregular periods, anovulation, insulin resistance etc. Both Provera and Duphaston are progesterone tablets which will lead to periods by withdrawal effect on endometrium. The time taken for withdrawal effect may vary from cycle to cycle and sometimes it may take around 7 to 10 days also. So, you please wait for some more days and you may get the withdrawal bleeding. Better not to take Provera now as that will further postpone your withdrawal bleeding and can also make cycles further irregular. Other measures that can help to relieve the symptoms of PCOD are: -Healthy and balanced diet for normal Body mass index. -Regular exercise. -Insulin sensitizers. -Hormonal pills for two to three months will help to regularize the cycles.
Hope I have answered your query. Will be happy to answer any further followup queries. Regards DR.Sree Gouri SR, OBSGYN
