Suggest Treatment For Abscess Above The Tooth Of A Child

Hello there, My two year old has developed an abscess above his top front tooth and I am wondering what the best cause of action is bearing in mind his age. he was 2 last monday. He has enamel hypoplasia on his four front teeth and we are avoiding any dental work as feel he is too young, we are focused on a diet high in fat soluble vitamins, no refined sugar or grains. He is a very healthy little boy. Many thanks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain abscess above the gum of the upper front tooth that already is hypoplastic can be most probably due to deep decay in tooth leading to dental abscess formation..
Secondly it can also be due to gum abscess caused due to deep impaction of food in the gums or due to any hard foods or toothbrush bristles that might have injured the gums..
I would suggest you to consult a Pedodontist and get him evaluated and an x ray is must for proper diagnosis..
In case of tooth abscess Pulpectomy has to be done..
For gum abscess Scaling followed by a short course of antibiotics will relieve..

Hope this helps..

Regards.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of abscess above the tooth which seems to be presence of infection till root tips and it is still spreading.

Need not to worry. i would suggest you to visit oral physician once and get complete examination done by intraoralperiapical radiograph. take proper course of antibiotics along with painkiller to subside infection. If it is restorable you should go for root canal treatment if it is permanent tooth and if it non restorable and causing extreme pain you should go for extraction of that tooth under local anesthesia. Maintain hygiene of child. Brush twice daily with rolling technique and super soft bristles.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
