Suggest Treatment For Abscess Around Carotid Artery In An Elderly Person

MY 83 yr old father has an absess that has wrapped around his carotid artery and the local (small) hospital says they could only drain it a little because there was not a vein specIalist to assist. They gave him a pain prescription as well as an antibiotic and told him it may drain some more on its own. He s had this absess a few days. The hospital told that if it doesn t get better, go to a bigger hospital. Should he go on to another hospital now?
