Suggest Treatment For Acid Reflux During Pregnancy
I am 23 weeks pregnant and I have been having the worse acid refluxes I have ever had. It causes me to feel like my throat is on fire, sends sharp pains threw my jaw and to my ears as well. I will actually end up with a headache. I have had to sleep sitting up because when I lay down I get sick. No medicine (tums, over the counter acid controllers) help me. I feel like anything I eat bothers it and I'm so exhausted I would love to just lay down and go to sleep. Is there anything I can eat or do to get rid of this horrible burning sensation in my throat ASAP?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your query. The acid reflux in pregnancy is caused due to looseness of diaphragmatic spincter of stomach.Following changes in life style along with antacids would help in management. -Eat small servings of food multiple times ( 3 hourly). Chew food properly.Always eat fresh food.Avoid spicy food, avoid sour juices,or caffeine. - Use asafoetida while preparing food - avoid forward bending, -Avoid lying down immediately after eating.Raise head end of your bed / sleep in propped up position. -Avoid taking any liquid diet except water 3 hours before sleeping. - take supportive medicines like/ Gelusil Omeprezol/ Ranitidine as per need with your doctor's advise. Thanks.
