My mother in law is a Acromegaly she had undergone surgery and now her GH level is 744 her age is 67 years. Doctors are of different opinion, one say go for Cyber Knife therapy other says go for injeection • Octreotide. Request advise what should be the correct treatment
Hello, Good day. Your mom has active acromegaly. Cyberknife is a type of radiotherapy and it may take many months for that to take effect. Till then, it is better to start and continue on Octreotide. You will have to monitor for gall stones while on Octrotide treatment. So the choice is purely of convenience and affordability. Octrotide treatment is required, but is unlikely to cure it. Cyberknife treatment may control the disease partially ( if not fully cure it) , but wil take time. My approach would be to do a re surgery if a tumour is visible in MRI. If she is not fit for surgery, then the best choice would be radiotherapy ( stereotactic) followed by Octreotide treatment Regards Binu
