Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am in eastern Europe. My husband had acute diarrhea and throwing up accompanied with temperature which was probably from a virus I passed to him. I was well within 48 hours. He has not gotten well. He wasn t able to eat for 2 days and had difficulty keeping water down and had constant diarrhea and throwing up for 2 days. A doctor came and gave him 4 IV bottles of sodium chloride to rehydrate and also prescribed nifuroxazide which he has taken for 1 1/2 days. He feels very bloated and has a lot of stomach pain. He continues to often go to the toilet but sometimes it is just air, otherwise just water since he hasn t eaten for 3 days now. He is constantly drinking sometime to help rehydrate that has natrium chloride, naturism citrate, calcium chloride, and glucose. He is in severe stomach pain.
Your husband may require further antibiotic dosing to reduce the infection since the diarrhoea is severe.Change of antibiotic may also be useful in improving the symptoms.
Antiemetics and Intravenous Proton pump inhibitors should be used to reduce vomiting and gastritis.Intravenous fluid Ringer lactate can be used along with Normal saline.
Complete blood counts and serum electrolytes should also be taken to rule out any electrolyte disturbances.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
