Suggest Treatment For Acute Fluctuations In Blood Sugar Level
I AM 74 YEARS OLD AND A NEWLY DIAGNOSED TYPE 2 DIABETIC. NORMALLY I TAKE 2 500MG METFORMIN TABLETS A DAY 1 BEFORE BREAKFAST AT 9 OR 10 AM THEN 1 BEFORE DINNR AT 6 OR 7 PM. A WHILE AGO AT 8 PM BEFORE EATING AND TAKING PILLS I TOOK MY BLOOD GLUCOSE READING WITH AN ACCU CHECK METER AND GOT A READING OF 222. NORMALLY I GET A 120 TO 140 READING BUT TONIGHT I WAS AN HOUR LATE AND HAD EATEN A BANQUET FROZEN DINNER. LAST WEEK AT THIS TIME I HAD A 98 READING ONE EVENING. AFTER TALING METFORMIN TONIGHT I GOT MY SECOND METER ALSO AN ACCU CHEJ FROM A DIFFERENT PART OF THE HOUSE AND WITH A DIFFERENT BATCH OF STRIPS AND GOT A RDING OF 188 AFTER OILLS BUT BEFORE EATING. WHAT DOES THIS SUDDN BLOOD GLUCOSE MEAN? WAS IT THE TV DINNER AND THE SLEEP 2 TO 3 HOURS AGO OR WHAT?
If your blood sugars are usually normal then it is likely the increase is related to the meal that you would have used.
It is not related to your sleep.
You should consider monitoring your blood sugars for a few days. A profile can be done where you document your fasting, premeal and post meals sugars to assess your general control.
I hope this helps
