Hello dr, My daughter is suffering from adenoid, now she is going to be 5 yrs by Feb 2016. We have consultanted many Dr. But still she have breathing problems ,at night during her sleep. Recently we have consultanted one more Dr as she getting cold very frequently. He has prescribed one nosal sray and relent for one and half month. Is it safe to take relent for such a long time and with this spray , will adenoid be cured. Or I have to go for operation. Shaijan George
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Adenoids is a lymphoid organ which would help to provide local immunity to the nose and throat region. However, repeated infection of the nasal cavity could result in swelling of adenoids and cause obstruction to the air passages, making it difficult to breathe. To overcome cold, she can take nasal decongestants to get relieved from symptoms. If she is symptomatic and her adenoids are enlarged, it needs to be removed by means of surgery. Kindly consult ENT specialist and get her clinically examined so that it could be decided weather she can be managed conservatively for some more time or need to be operated.
