Suggest Treatment For An Eye Infection

I believe I have an eye infection in one eye and does not appear to be 'pink eye'. I've had this for a couple of days and I'm using a homeopathic solution which only temporarily reduces the redness. The eye is red, very painful and the eyelid is swollen.
I wasn't able to get into the doctor this week and most likely will be several days until they have an opening.
Urgent Care/ER in our area is $75 and I would much rather not spend this money.
I have an unused prescription for oral penicillin and I'm wondering if this will help at all until I see a doctor. On the internet it shows only topical antibiotics to be used for eye infections.

Thank you,
Judy

Hello
It seems from the history that you are having eye infection and the eye is painful and swollen.
The treatment of the eye infection is by use of antibiotic eye drops and anti-inflammatory drugs.
The oral penicillin or other oral antibiotics will not reach the eyes and hence not likely to help for ocular infections because of presence of blood eye barrier which prevents the oral antibiotics from reaching the eyes.
Hence antibiotic eye drops are required for treatment of eye infections.

Thank you
