Suggest Treatment For An Itchy Red Spot On The Scalp

I have a red spot on my scalp.. it s the size of a dime and is sensitive to the touch. It doesn t feel like a bump and it s not itchy either. I have trichotillomania and I believe this could be the problem because when I was pulling out a strand from that section of the hair, I noticed it actually hurt more than normal so I took a picture and seen that it was a red, sort of yellow, spot on my scalp. What could this be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy red spot on the scalp . Well foliculitis that is hair follicle infection caused by Staphylococcus bacteria infection.It can also be due to allergic reaction to certain chemicals and shampoos , contact dermatitis , Seborrheic Dermatitis, Scalp Psoriasis. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation along with investigations to rule out for the exact cause of the symptoms and treatment can be done accordingly. Topical application of Clindamycin gels along with Benzoyl Peroxide gel and using salicylic acid containing shampoos can help. In case of Folliculitis topical antibacterial ointments and at times Oral antibiotics can help. In case of allergic reaction avoiding using the particular cosmetics and steroid lotion can help.
