Hi, Last july 30- aug 3 i was admitted due to anemia caused by profused vaginal bleeding and had 3 bags of blood transfused. My ob advised me to take nordette pills and im still tking it up to now. Im also done with my albothyl treatment for 7 days ( every other night) religiously. My question is: Im having cramps now and last night i havent slept completely. I also have brown to reddish dicharge. Is this normal? Im being paranoid and overthinking this might lead to another hospitalization. Pls help! Thanks!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my surgical experience, the anemia due to severe loss of blood from profuse vaginal bleeding was the reason for blood transfusions.

However, the control of underlying pathology which led to high flow of menses is mandatory to prevent further episode of anemia.

There may be various reasons as

- uterine fibroid
- adenomyosis
- missed abortion
- severe infections
- coagulation disorders as of platelets or anti phospholipid syndrome
- others

In my clinic, I do recommend an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvic for further management of prevention of future episodes of menorrhagia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
