Suggest Treatment For Angioedema In A Patient With CHF

I have very swollen feet and ankles. I have been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and am being treated with Furosemide (currently 40 mg. every 8 hours) and Entresto 49/51. I feel the Entresto has been helping for about a year, but now I m concerned about Angioedema. My nephrologist is having some tests done, but considering the amount of diuretics I m taking, zI don t think it s a kidney issue. Exactly what is Angioedema?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sorry to hear of your disease. In fact pedal edema (swelling if feet) is different from angioedema. Pedal edema very commonly occurs with CCF, and this indicates that the heart pumping is weak, so fluid accumulates in the legs. Diuretics are used for it along with salt restriction. There are many other causes as well but your's is CCF. On the other hand angioedema is an allergic type of reaction in which some part of body swells. This may be the lips or hands or other parts. Very rarely involve the legs. This mostly occurs repeatedly. It may occur with drugs, viral infections, idiopathic or may be hereditary angioedema.
