Suggest Treatment For Anxiety And Depression Despite Taking Wellbutrin And Neurontin
Hi Dr. Rynne, I am a 58 year old female and I take 450 mg. of Wellbutrin XL for depression and 400 mg. of Neurontin for anxiety. The 2 meds have worked well for me because I m also ADHD and take 20 mg. of Adderall XR per day. I ve been on this combination for approx 15 years, and now am feeling that I need something more for my depression and anxiety. I ve been in therapy for about 10 years off and on....more after loosing my 22 year old son 6 years ago. My MFCC is a highly competent therapist as well as an RN. My question is what should I add to my meds since I m feeling they are not as effective? Possibly Symbalta? Thanks, Karen
Remaining on the same combination of medications for a prolonged period can lead to reduced effectiveness in treating depression/anxiety. You can follow up with your treating physician to change Welbutrin to another serotonin/serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Please note that it can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to notice improvement after making the medication switch.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
