Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I previously started a couple new prescriptions for anxiety and depression. One being lexapro and the other Ativan. I have been on those for 4weeks. I had been off birth control for 3 months and started back on it almost 2 weeks ago. Before starting the birth control I started feeling better. (Less anxious) but now after 2 weeks of being on this birth control I have started getting anxious and depressed feeling again. Do you think it s because of the birth control?
You have anxiety an depression and was taking Lexapro (Escitalopram) and Ativan (Lorazepam). These drugs caused significant improvement and you were feeling better. Then you have started taking Birth control pills and now you have started feeling anxious and depressed again. If we consider pharmacokinetics taking OCPs with Escitalopram doesn't cause significant drug interactions. But birth control pills are known to reduce the concentration of lorazepam and as per my opinion this could be the reason of your increased anxiety and depression after taking birth control pills.
Visit your psychiatrist for dose adjustments and slight increase in dose of lorazepam will result in improvement of symptoms.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
