Suggest Treatment For Anxiety While Weaning Off Clonazepam
My new Psych is taking me off of my Clonazepam because she has already decided what kind of person I am. She is using my self-commitment 2 1/2 months ago for detox and mental health issues against me. I have been on Clonazepam for about 10 yrs. I have been able to go w/o panic/anxiety attacks during this time and if I feel that I am exhibiting signs of one, I take one. I do not abuse/use any drugs but the alcohol, but I have been sober since my commitment? What is your opinion about long-term use of it?
Weaning off clonazepam can cause worsen anxiety and cause other associated withdrawal symptoms. However, even though difficult it is best to wean off the medication due to its addiction and overdose potential.
Try slowly tapering down the dose over a few weeks before completely stopping the medication.
If the withdrawal symptoms are too bothersome, a long-acting benzodiazepine like chlordiazepoxide can be used to treat the withdrawal symptoms.
Please be advised to follow up with your treating physician for necessary management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
