Suggest Treatment For Anxiety

Can you tell me how to handle anxiety. I am afraid to tell my dr as he may think im just trying to get meds from him. Some people have made it so bad for people who actually need things prescribed, that drs are hesitant to treat their patients who truly need help.

Hello
My name is Dr.Arianisa Bajrami
Thanks for your question on HCM

I really do understand your concern. But i wanna explain step by step what you really should do to treat anxiety.
1. Understanding the cause of symptoms, and talking things over with a friend, family member or health professional may help(after you explain to him that you really have a problem and you are not talking to him to get free medication)
2.Anxiety management courses.there you will learning how to relax, how to get problem-solving skills, coping strategies, and group support.
Your doctor or practice nurse, may also be able to put you in touch with a local group for face-to-face support. You can also get leaflets, books, tapes, videos, etc, on relaxation and combating stress.

3.And Antidepressant medicines that only your doctor can prescribe to you. These are commonly used to treat depression, but also help to reduce the symptoms of anxiety even if you are not depressed.
(SSRI) antidepressants are the ones most commonly used for anxiety disorders.
Antidepressants do not work straightaway. It takes 2-4 weeks before their effect builds up and the anxiety symptoms are helped. A common problem is that some people stop the medicine after a week or so, as they feel that it is doing no good.
Most common side effects of SSRIs drugs are gastric related like nausea, stomach upset in some, diarrhea
Benzodiazepines such as diazepam used to be the most commonly prescribed medicines for anxiety.

So best thing to do is to talk sincerely and open about your problem to your doctor .If you have any other question please write to me.Hope it was helpful to you

Best regards
