Suggest Treatment For Arthritis In An Elderly Person
I am 85 years old and I have sevear arthritis in both knees. I have been going to a knee and sports MD. I have recently had a series of five injections in both knees with a Haluran substance. Yesterday I had a catheter placed in my neck for a Provenge immune therapy starting next week for Prostate cancer. Last night when I went to bed and got up to urinate I had a Hell of a time getting to my feet with my cane and fist on the bed. I am going to to my oncologist on Monday to have the catheter dressing changed. My grandson has a coiple of Norco tabs left over from an oral surgery. Should I take One Norco tab when I go to bed tonight to aleviat the pain that I had last night all night and all day today? Regards, GJP
Sorry to hear about your suffering. Pain management is very necessary. Narcotics are very good pain killer but has many serious side effects. So we use it as a last resort.
If Paracetamol or ibuprofen do not work for your pain you may use the drug with great caution. Do not use narco if you have an allergy to opioids, or if you have any respiratory disease.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
