Arthritis is a disease which has an inflammatory component as well as degenerative component. Most of the people suffering from arthritis in long run damage their knee and still don't realize until it's time to replace the knee. As her knees has been replaced, the degenerative component is taken care of. But, sometimes inflammatory component prevails for which anti inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) have to be given for some time considering her cardiopulmonary status, as these medicines have certain side effects. Also, the muscle spasm may be due to Vitamin D deficiency, so get a Vitamin D test done. Also, numbness cannot be explained with certainty as their is no factor explaining it. It might be peripheral neuropathy due to many reasons and needs a detailed workup.
