Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had an xray done on both knees showing arthritic changes involving both knees, more prominent on the right with joint space narrowing involving both medial compartments . Mild fullness in the suprapatellar region bilaterally could represent a small joint effusion. What does this mean and how does one treat it. Also will it get better or worse?
I have studied your report and I think that you are having oteoarthritis of the joint. It is still in early stage as only one compartment is involved. Fluid collection is also there. I have following suggestions for you. 1.You meet a physiotherapist and learn static quadriceps exercises and start doing them regularly. 2. Hot water fomentaiton to the knee joint. 3.Avoid squatting and sitting cross leg is also helpful. It increases pressure on knee joint. 4.Tablet calcium and vitamin D 3 is also useful. 5.Voletran ointment is also helpful. 6.Tablet Brufen or ultracet if pain is there. 7.Arthroscopic debridement of knee joint can be done. it is minor surgery and its results are very good. 8. Intra articular steroid injection is also useful. it should not be repeated before 3 months.
