my sons asthma is flaring up after running in PE. His inhaler is not doing anything for him and the pick test (?) they did at school was at 340 and for his age and weight/size he should be at 450-460-per the school nurse. i brought home to use his nebulizer. his is numb along with tingling in his hand. what should i do?
Hello, Peak flow at 340 L/min is not too bad when one is having an acute asthma attack (although this would depend on the person's age and height as you mention 460 L/min). Less than 50% of best peak flow is an indication for hospitalisation.
You need to ensure he is on: enough anti-allergy medications, a nasal spray, Singulair 10mg (if adult), combination inhalers like Seretide or Airtec-SF Singulair will help for exercise induced asthma exacerbations.
A detailed allergen profile test is required to see if he will benefit from immunotherapy.
Best Wishes.
