Suggest Treatment For Back Pain And Sleeplessness

In March 2017 I was diagnosed with hyponatraemia from using herbal relax and sleep medications. My sodium levels went back to normal after 3 days of fluid restrictions and I was discharged home. I am now getting the same symptoms after taking Panadol ie shakiness, racing heart, sleeplessness etc I took Panadol twice in one day for back pain. Will salt tablets help to increase my sodium levels? And should I have back pain again in the future what medication would be safe for me to take. I am 58 and take Symbicort and Ventolin for asthma. I am on no other medications.

Hi,

It is uncommon for Panadol (paracetamol) to cause changes in sodium levels in blood. The symptoms you prescribe like shakiness, racing heart and sleeplessness can be due to a possible viral infection and fever so it is advisable for you to check your temperature when you feel so and if your temperature is over 37.5C very likely you are feverish.

Low sodium can happen in case you drink a lot but take little sodium with diet so make sure you do take enough sodium with diet. If you still are worried that the symptoms may be due to low sodium you should have a visit with your doctor to confirm it and take proper treatment and find the cause of it. Panadol generally is not a cause of low sodium.

Hope I have answered your query.
