Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband had back pain for a couple of days. Yesterday he had excruicating pain when trying to sit and could not manage to put his socks and shoes on. He has not pain while lying down but feels like he is having spasms in his upper leg and lower leg and has some soreness in his leg as well. Standing does not seem to hurt him. It sitting down and staying seated that creates the most pain.
For backache you are suggested to get your husband clinically examined by a GP & if need be he may refer him to a orthopedics surgeon. To relieve soreness, spasms & pain you can give him ORS (Electrol), soups & juice. Sometimes electrolyte depletion may manifest as spasms.
He needs to get blood & Imaging tests done to rule out slipped discs, degenerative disc disease, sciatica. If it is muscle strain then it will get relieved by taking antacids & analgesis/NSAIDS.
However, it looks like sciatica/ slipped disc. His treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
