Suggest Treatment For Bacterial Vaginosis While On Fluconazole

I was given a Rx for Fluconazole 150 mg to take. It has been over 30 hrs. since I took it should I be seeing results and feeling better by now? It feels the same. Also when my Dr. did the swab test it came back as not having a yeast infection and not being bacterial vaginosis. She said that those tests aren t always correct and based on the amount and the look of the discharge she thought it was a yeast infection. If this medicine isn t working what else could it be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Bacterial vaginosis occurs when there is a change in the environment in the vagina. Men do not get this infection. There was one medical study in 1997 that looked at whether providing men with medication helped with the cure rate of the infection in women, it did not. Men typically have no or little symptoms of BV and do not typically require treatment.
Some men do have inflammation of the tip of the penis but this is not common.

If for some reason, there is inflammation of the penis that is thought to be linked to BV then metronidazole or clindamycin cream can be used.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
