Suggest Treatment For Bartholin Cyst During Pregnancy
Hi, My wife having her 1st pregnancy (21 Weeks) and she s got a Bartholin Cyst, it is small (2 cm) reddish color. She took Antibiotic (Augmentin 1g) for 5 days and applied Fucidin for 7 days. The Cyst still the same, no pain (sometimes mild pain). Is there anything else we can do to treat and prevent this cyst from becoming bigger or infected without drainage/surgery ? considering her pregnancy... Thank you.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Bartholin's cyst is a swelling of bartholin gland at in vaginal area. It may remain symptom free & becomes inflamed ,painful when it is infected. Treatment depends on the stage of cyst. - Symptomless cyst is managed palliatively by avoiding chances of infection( cleanliness, avoid itching, avoid urine infection) - when it is painful, antibiotic/anti inflammatory agent are given to control infection & swelling. many a time swelling subsides after the course. - Cyst not responding to antibiotic treatment, Aspiration with antibiotics & anti inflammatory drugs / incision & drainage are done as per gynecologist's choice. You should consult a gynecologist for her expert consultation after examination & treatment. Incision becomes essential in few cases in spite of pregnancy- incion made in early months of pregnancy are better.heal well & do not interfere with delivery. Thanks.
