Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Pressure sores can be difficult to treat and rate of healing is quite slow.If proper care is not given it can cause complications like
skin infection or
bone infection.
I suggest you to do the following preferably under the evaluation of a trained nurse or a social worker:-
1.Change positions often,Repositioning is important to take pressure off the area.
2.Antibiotic therapy may be needed in case of infected wound. A skin and wound culture may be needed to choose the best antibiotic.
3.Check her blood sugar level to rule out diabetes. undetected diabetes can cause non healing ulcer.
4.Cleaning and dressing under sterile precautions is essential to prevent infection. Keep the healthy tissue around the wound clean and dry.
5.Have healthy diet rich in protein to promote wound healing.
Protein supplements can be given if she is emaciated.
If the pressure sores does not heal with these you have to
consult a general surgeon and surgical debridement may be needed to remove dead and necrotic tissues. VAC (vacuum-assisted closure) may be needed in cases.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
