Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old struggles with bed wetting. He is a very active boy and always moving around. He sleeps so sound at night which I m assuming causes the bed wetting. Our family Dr. hasn t seemed concerned at all. We have tried an alarm (which was ususally going off a couple hours after falling asleep) and it didn t wake him. We aren t to concerned but it s annoying. For the past couple weeks, when it s time to go to bed he s been complaining of his tummy hurting. We tell him to go sit in the bathroom and while and go but he says he doesn t have to. His bowl movements are pretty regular. So usually I give him Tums to settle his tummy. Could they be related??
thank-you user for your query. I understand your concern. First of all bed wetting is a very common problem in children. There are studies which showed that children of even above 12 years have problems of bed wetting. Don't worry about bed wetting instead help your child to understand that wetting the bed is a normal part of growing up. Encouragement and praise may be all that is needed to help your child wake up before wetting. Praise the child and even reward him for the steps he or she takes to have dry nights. And have your child take an active role in cleaning up after wetting. though there are medical treatment also but before starting ur child on drugs consult any psychiatrist as he will do psychotherapy which is very effective. Many children gets relieved merely by psychotherapy only. You can also try by reducing the water content 1 hour before child goes to sleep and letting him to evacuate the bladder just before going to sleep. Don't panic it is a very common condition and will go off with time. god bless
